Is Our Data Secure in the Cloud?

1 min read

I get questioned a lot about, “How do I know my data in the cloud is secure?” Or “How do I keep my data secure in the cloud?” How do I know that it’s safe? And it’s a very simple question with a very complex answer.

Choosing a Trusted Cloud Storage Service

The simplest answer I can give you is to choose Cloud storage providers or cloud vendors that are thoroughly vetted and well known. In other words, don’t put your data in a Cloud service provider that you haven’t heard of and that can’t produce good security documentation for you.

Stick with names you know. These companies are the ones with advanced security measures that are proven to protect data in the cloud.

Reviewing Security Documentation Carefully

Read through the documentation when signing up for cloud services. Often, we look at user documentation and acceptance documentation and we just click through it, accept it, and say yes.

But I encourage you to read through it. Understand how they protect and use your data, where your data is stored, and ask intelligent questions. A really good Cloud service provider will have those answers at your fingertips and be prepared to answer them for you.
